Right before Spring break, Madrona West had an Egg Hunt. The main idea was stimulating collaboration among the younger and the older students. The teams worked together while hunting as well as while counting their results. What a fun way to celebrate teamwork!
Madrona students visited MakerLabs in Vancouver for a guided tour. Students learned about various hand tools and how workshop equipment is operated. Inside of the sewing lab, we saw a CNC loom, mannequins and industrial sewing machines. The woodshop had a CNC milling machine, table saw, band saw and lathe, and in the metal department; […]
At Madrona West, the teachers and students participated in Bike to School Week. *The total distance biked by everyone at Madrona West last week was 550 km! Over the course of the week, we used the total kilometers biked by everyone to see where we could bike to from Madrona West to various places in British Columbia. […]
Special guests, Jim and Carol, helped the Grade 4/5 students build their very own bird houses. Students worked together to assemble, hammer, and paint habitats for the local chickadee population. They hammered their way to our hearts.
Experiments and Investigations varying from lazers to potatoes to bomb disposal to flowers to water shaft theory to optical illusions to rocketology and beyond, were all on display at the Madrona Downtown campus for our first STEM Fair. Students investigated built, experimented, then presented their findings in a fun filled afternoon of gadgets, mayhem and popcorn. Thank you […]

The day held at the Earth Sciences building in U.B.C, consisted of four rounds of mathematical challenges testing individual and team knowledge. Madrona students from both campuses, grades 4 to 9, ventured to Mount Seymour to explore the trails and trees for a day of fun. We began our day snowshoeing over hills and through the forest learning and playing along the way. To conclude our day we flew down hills on toboggans or tubes.
